The Importance of Aftercare
How permanent makeup heals will depend on two people. The artist and the client. Each is equally responsible for the final healed results. As the client, it is crucial that you are able to follow the aftercare as directed. If you are not able to do so, it is best to delay the application of your new permanent makeup until you are able to commit to the healing process.
Failure to follow aftercare as directed can have serious consequences which include infection, excessive pigment loss & scaring.
During the acute healing phase it is important to avoid certain things to ensure an excellent healed result and avoid negative reactions.
- Soaking in water
- Sweating
- Makeup on the treated area
- Sun exposure
- Picking
- Dirty Environments
The Healing Phases
All permanent makeup goes through six distinct healing phases. These healing phases are normal, expected and occur in all permanent makeup procedures. For some clients, they will hardly notice the process and others will be quite dramatic.
- Fresh- Sting like a sunburn, leak fluid called lymph.
- Darken
- Drying out
- Light peeling
- Barely there pigment or wrong color
- Pigment blooming
During these healing phases, you may experience a wide range of emotion which includes love, hate, panic, regret and then love again. The healing process is not for the faint of heart but if you trust in your artist all will be right at the end of your 6-week touch-up.
